Queen Kapi'olani Hotel Lobby Art
LARGE-FORMAT ILLUSTRATION
Queen Kapi'oloni Hotel
The Queen Kapi'olani Hotel in Waikiki is just finishing up their newly renovated space and I was honored to create a large-format illustration (9'x9') celebrating the sights and sounds that surround the area. The magic of Waikiki has always been it's historic presence and its beautiful mix of people. If you've ever surfed at Queen's or chatted with the beach boys, or sipped a drink and watched the sunset, you get it.
And because Waikiki feels like such a quilt, everyone from locals to tourists, old hotels and new, first-timers and seasoned veterans, the piece is broken up into several panels highlighting the many things that make this area great and bringing them together to carry the eclectic vibe through the lobby.
One of the most notable things about this hotel is its incredible view of Diamondhead, so I took some time to sit on the balcony of one of the higher level rooms and get that detail right. Especially when everyone staying there on the right side of the hotel could easily check my work after a few mornings of looking out the window.
In addition to being right across from the beach, it also is within walking distance of the Waikiki Shell, a hub for local music and visiting attractions.
