Surfer Towel x Nick Kuchar
It's been a busy few months here at Nick Kuchar Art & Design Co. but one of the most exciting updates is the release of our brand new Surfer Towels! I've known the talented Christie Shinn for a few years now and it was a no-brainer when she asked if I'd like to work on some custom towel designs. Surfer Towels are serious business and according to their site they're "...versatile, quick-drying, sand free, easy-packing and cute as hell." And hey, we don't disagree. I created two designs, "Destination" and "Kama'aina" for this release. And while they've already sold out on our site once, we've got more!
"Destination" is a collection of some of my favorite vintage-inspired travel prints to date.
To create Kama'aina, I set out to explore some of the local beach sights that make me feel home in Hawaii: carrying boards to the beach, walking the nose on your longboard, maybe even spotting a honu (sea turtle). Kama‘aina translates to 'child of the land' and is a phrase you might hear in describing a local person or trying to score a discount at your favorite shrimp truck.
Another huge mahalo to Christie for inviting me to be a part of this and for putting on an awesome launch event to get people excited! Here are a few snaps from Bret Thompsett of the night at the Waikiki BeachComber
